A gloriously sunny and warm day graced St Andrew's once again for this year’s Summer Fair. The most anticipated family event in the calendar proved as popular as ever, not just in visitor numbers, but in spectacular fund-raising efforts too. Thanks to you, our readers, and the wonderful support of our school community, FOSA raised more than £6000 on the day; more than our charity raises throughout the entire year! This is a huge achievement that enables us to make significant contributions to the school which will directly enhance the experience of our children.
From the moment the gates opened, excited and happy children ran in, quickly finding their friends and exploring the many stalls on offer. Adults and children alike tried their luck with some of the classics which included pick a lolly, hook a duck, jolly bag tombola and splat the rat. Rediscovering their competitive streaks, visitors aimed for the highest score of the day with football darts, knocking coconuts from their shy (harder than it looks) and of course throwing wet sponges at our obliging headmaster!
Having worked up an appetite zorbing in the pool, participating in the sack races or tug of war organised by Surrey Hills and Rivers, the barbecue was a popular area in which to refuel. Needless to say, the ice cream van proved equally popular in the warm summer sun. The bar was busy too, with refreshing summer Pimms expertly (and generously) served by St Andrew's parents.
We were delighted to welcome stalls from local businesses Hot Pods Chilli, The Cosy Woodshed, Your Sanctuary and Apples and Pears, not to mention Coconut Jewellery run by St Andrew’s very own student entrepreneurs! We are also extremely grateful to Foundations of Woking for sponsoring our event, and to The Red Lion for donating a keg of beer for our bar.
Our special guest entertainer was magician Tim Barnes and his incredibly sweet rabbit, Harry. Children and adults were mesmerised by his magic show, with oohs and ahhhs resounding around the circus tent.
We would like to thank several local small businesses for their very generous donations to our raffle, details of which can be found below.
