An annual favourite, the Kids Only Christmas Shop is always a sign that the festive season is upon us.
On Friday 29 November 2024 the FoHSA Elves watched 86 very excited children from Reception to Year 2 pass through the doors of the Woodham Rise Sports Hall and be transported into the magical world of the Woodham Rise Kids Only Christmas Shop.
From just after half term, FOHSAnta’s helpers have been busy collecting, organising and pricing all your very generous donations ready for the big event. With a truly fabulous team (both on the day and in the lead up) made up of grandparents, parents, staff (and the catering team for keeping the elves well fed!), the sports hall was transformed into a winter wonderland. With Christmas music playing and a virtual fire roaring, the children’s faces lit up as they entered and saw all the presents to choose from. For some the selection was easy whilst others enjoyed a good look!
Once selected, the children paid, collected their Santa Lolly receipt and then could get their presents wrapped – ready for the big day. The only thing left were for the children to excitedly compare notes on their purchases, have a photo and receive their special Santa Stone before heading back to class.
For those who volunteer for this event, the true magic is seeing the children get so excited to choose two presents for their loved ones and hearing all the thought and care that has gone into that selection. The other joy is getting a chance to speak to the children, who without exception, are all kind, polite and just delightful to talk to!
This year, the vast majority of donations were sold raising a whopping £523 for FOHSA! A few unsold books were given to Woodham Rise site for the children and a very small number of unsold gifts donated to raise money for Bright Spaces Foundation.
